This was a rewarding experience!!! I had a lot of fun working 1:1 with Sofia, she was a joy to have and this was a valuable experience because I graduated from Erwin High School and was able to reconnect with one of the students, I knew the teachers she talked about and what it was like to be a student there in years past.
I'm used to working in a kitchen and serving people so that part came naturally. The location is very close to the college and convenient if I decide to go back and help again. I greatly enjoyed serving the men at the Veterans Quarters. They were all very appreciative and kind. I'm glad I got to sit and eat with some of them as well, getting to know them on a personal level and hearing their stories is what had the biggest impact for me.
My friend Abby Martin invited me to come with her to Horse Sense where she had interned last summer. I have five years of previous experience with horses and have always wanted to work with Horse Sense so I took the opportunity. We did the normal barn cleaning and caring for the horses and got to spend some one on one time grooming the horses and miniature horses at the stable. I was also able to participate in an equine therapy demonstration as a "stunt client" for visitors and potential clients from the community. I learned quite a bit about equine therapy and also enjoyed my time with the horses.
