Kaitlyn spent her practicum at the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. This is a renowned hospital within Chulalongkorn University that trains medical students and physicians from the Faculty of Medicine and offers examination and treatment services to the public. The hospital has been a center of academic excellence in various fields of medicine in Thailand and aims to maintain the quality of its health care services with the motto “service-minded devotion to society.” Overall, the hospital prioritizes patients first. Kaitlyn shadowed and interviewed physicians in the Radiation Oncology Department to gain first-hand knowledge of the Thai healthcare system and quality of life for cancer patients. Alongside the physicians, she also worked to create and administer questionnaires for cancer patients currently undergoing palliative radiation. She hopes for this research to benefit the patients as well as the physicians who want to understand how their patients use alternative therapies during their cancer experiences and how it influences their hospital treatments.
