Trail of Lights Volunteers assist with all aspects of the event, including serving as Trail Guides, Trail Ambassadors, and part of our interactive displays. Volunteers will provide information and direction to attendees, and help make this event fun and festive for all! Members of this team are the public face of the Trail of Lights and should bring lots of energy, a good sense of humor and willingness to interact with Trail attendees.

We went to a secret beach to help clean leftover trash left by citizens of Austin. It's not uncommon for trash to be left out on the streets, but with aid of volunteers like me, we are able to beautify our park and leave an impact in our city. As a result, other citizens can keep coming to this beautiful park (beach) of ours in a wonderful city like Austin.

I volunteered at Girl Day. It was so awesome knowing that I was able to impact middle school girls about their future as possible engineers! On this day, I was tasked with helping little girls engineer a windmill made out of plastic cups, pencils, pins, tape, & straws with common goal of having the most amount of spins per minute. Hopefully, the women percentage population in engineering increases in the future because of impactful days like these.

On Saturday, I went with the Formula SAE team to introduce a girl to engineering. It was an incredible moment seeing tons of girls interested in cars. I came across a few girls who were asking me how things worked. The fact that she asked why signified her capability of becoming an engineer. In all, it was a very good experience trying to 'recruit' future female engineers.

I volunteered, through Formula SAE, at Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. That Saturday, I helped prep the 2011 formula car. I then help the crew push the car tithe parking lot where the event was taking place. I had free pizza and I got to explain to a lot of little girls how the engine behind the car works. They were all excited and I strongly feel, by looking at the smiles they had on twit faces, that I have impacted them in a way that they won't forget. Years from now, they will look back and think, "I want to be an engineer!"

Volunteering at the Trail of Lights was a fun experience! Not inly did I learn about a "free" event that Austin has, I was able to check out a few events while I was volunteering. I was able to sample a few snacks as well. In addition, I got see the beautiful scattered amongst the trees. On top of that, I got to wear a construction vest and hold a walkie-talkie.
