Helped kids learn. The classes I participated in were designed such that I didn’t get much time helping students 1 on 1. However, it was interesting helping the class as a whole.
I helped with the STEMS program by tutoring physics in the second period of the day of Tuesdays and Thursdays. I found it very rewarding to see the students I worked with improve on their academics and begin to strive for success in class. While some students struggled through a language barrier, some others struggled through the lack of motivation in the classroom. Guiding them through this process and encouraging them to not give up was very rewarding for both them and me. I think that the STEMS program does a very good job of allowing the teachers there at Hope High School to focus on the majority of the class while the outliers who struggle more with academics are tutored by us STEMS tutors. It improves not only the whole class but the students, teachers, and tutors as well. (I forgot to log hours these past 3 weeks, so I combined all of my previous hours here.)
