My volunteering experience at Rudders Middle School has been great so far. The staff overall is very welcoming, and I can tell they love helping their students. On this day I helped a boy named Ahmed from Dubai. I corrected his English, and I assisted him in answering questions on his math homework. Once again we divided at five, and this time I went with the gym group, and we played volleyball. It was a challenge playing with 6th & 7th-grade boys!!
I had a great time volunteering at Rudders Middle School. My first day there I assisted a boy named Yousef from Saudi Arabia, he was in the sixth grade and was very knowledgeable although he struggled to articulate himself at times. I enjoyed reading with him, and I helped him with his social studies homework. When it turned five, the class split into two groups. It was either gym or tech. I was with the tech group, and we played with spheros, a robotic toy that has programming through an app on an iPod touch. I realized how exposed these kids were to technology at such a young age which is pretty cool compared to my early education the best gadgets we had were computers.
I tutored the same girl I had previously and one of the boys from the group as well. I helped them with math, reading, and science. This time around I was more understanding of their difficulties with English
On this day the volunteer advisors from Guadalupe Community Center hosted an orientation for the students volunteering for the spring. They informed us about what the organization did and explained to us the impact we will make/have for this volunteering experience. It was very informative.
