Got to meet new and interesting people! Even though our building was still in use, we were able to turn off plenty of lights, computer monitors, and projectors! Overall, the experience was great and I would recommend Longhorn Lights Out to anyone who enjoys conserving energy, meeting new people, and eating yummy pizza!
Turned off a whole lot more lights, monitors, and projectors than in previous attempts! My group had fun, we took several pictures and even posted to social media for the video/picture contest! Also, I was able to get a tshirt! Overall, Longhorn Lights Out is a great and fun way to save so much energy for the University, and for Texas!
Turned off several hundred lights, monitors, and projectors - saving hundreds or even thousands in $ and energy! A sustainable Texas leads to a sustainable life!
I provided a ream of paper for the class to use. The class each made about 10 handwritten cards of encouragement. I wrote phrases like "Have a great day! Finish the semester strong! Ace those exams and get that degree!" etc. Attached to the cards were pieces of candy. Then, as a class, we delivered the handwritten cards to random people to brighten up their day. Overall, I thought this was a creative idea. People smiled when we gave them the cards, so one could say we achieved our goal.
Funky Chicken Coop tour was interesting and fun! I worked at Stop #4 desk, scanned tickets, and provided wrist bands for tour guests. A couple times I had to change out the "biosecurity" pad with a new bleach solution. The hosts were very nice at Stop #4. The only thing that went wrong was the Brown Paper Tickets app scanner for some reason did not want to scan, so I had to manually enter the ticket barcodes.
Helped clean up the Garden area to keep it nice and tidy for the children of Guerrero Thompson Elementary! Hard work, but definitely worth every moment!
Pulled tape off of and Laid down cardboard, pulled weeds and grass that were in the way. Also dug up and subsequently laid down mulch around the garden squares already in place. Definitely learned something new - you can use cardboard/recycled things to help make a garden flourish!
Went to 2 different buildings and turned off any lights, computers, projectors, etc. to save and conserve Energy! Very fun and exciting with the group I was in!
Spent time with and assisted students with their review of Mathematical concepts. Assisted instructor with organizing the classroom and setting desks up in preparation for testing.
Being a part of the Sustainability Squad was fun! While we helped Longhorn Fans to be smart about their waste, I think I may have learned a lot too!
