Hellstern Middle School Garden

About

Hellstern Middle School in Springdale provides outstanding education to 1050 sixth and seventh grade students. One of the ways we do so is in our school garden and health and wellness initiatives. We work to integrate core curriculum standards in english and math into garden-based, hands-on lessons for the students. Both in the formal classroom and during informal club or recess time, Hellstern students have the opportunity to learn gardening skills, understand their connection to the natural world and the origins of their food, and try new fruits and vegetables. This enhances nutrition lessons in health class, farm to school and healthy eating initiatives in the cafeteria, and helps to keep them active during the school day.
We are constantly looking for volunteers to enhance our programs and provide expert knowledge to the students about gardening, composting, healthy eating, etc. All volunteers are welcome regardless of skill level or gardening backgroung. The only thing we require is an enthusiasm to participate and the willingness to learn.
