San Antonio State Hospital

About

The SASH Volunteer Service Council's primary mission is to promote and enhance the well-being of SASH's patients and contribute to patients' rehabilitation and recreational needs. The San Antonio State Hospital first opened its doors in 1892. It is one of 10 state psychiatric hospitals in the Texas Department of State Health Services. In-patient capacity is 302 beds. The staff of about 850 full-time employees, provides a complete range of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services on an in-patient basis. SASH is accredited by the Joint Commission and meets the same criteria as every other hospital reviewed by the Commission. Services include inpatient care for adolescent, adults requiring acute psychiatric care, adults requiring extended psychiatric care, and geriatric psychiatric care.

SASH is always in need of GROUP VOLUNTEERS to interact with the patients by playing bingo, board games, art & crafts, playing cards, etc.

If you and your group would like to make a difference in the lives of our patients, please contact Annette Delgado, Volunteer Coordinator, for more details.
