Ed Virtual Tutors

About

Ed Virtual Tutors is a network of graduate and undergraduate student volunteers offering 1-on-1 tutoring to K-12 students in Birmingham City Schools in response to the COVID pandemic.

On March 26th, Gov. Kay Ivey announced that all Alabama schools would move to distance learning for the remainder of the school year. Education outcome studies on remote learning have shown that a significant investment of time from parents is required for any amount of success. The reality is that many families are now balancing the added pressure of distance learning with their roles as essential workers. The Ed Virtual Tutors network aims to ease the burden of families by providing additional individualized support to students.
HOW DOES THIS WORK:
Tutors will be matched to families by grade, subject need, and availability. Once a match has been made, tutors will receive an email to either accept or decline the match. If the tutor accepts, the phone number and email of the tutor will be shared with the family through an introductory email sent to both parties. Families and tutors can then communicate to determine a day/time for the first session and share any relevant course materials and student needs. Once a date and time has been determined a Zoom session will be coordinated through GivePulse.
