Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS)

About

Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) is a non-profit organization that strives to make a difference where it matters most, in the lives of our children. There are several ways you can get involved with VIPS!

EveryBody Reads- be a Reading Friend to a student who has been identified as reading below their grade level. These students often lack access to books at home, may not get home work help or a one-on-one story time at home, and often need a consistent adult in their lives.

  • Time commitment- 30 minutes/ weekly for the duration of the school year
  • If you cannot commit to meeting with a student weekly, you can pair up with a friend and the two of you can alternate seeing the student weekly.
  • This program is offered at 35 different schools. Student availability depends on the times provided by his or her teacher, but are typically during the school day (between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm). You do not have to visit your student on the same day or time each week.

EveryOne Counts- be a Math Friend to a student who has been identified as being below grade level in math.  These students often need a confidence boost and need someone to help them visualize what numbers look like and how they apply to every day life.
