Work the front lines of exhibition opening parties, readings with world class authors, unique film screenings, and conversations with the foremost living artists. Interact with a public that is passionate about the humanities, listen to their questions, and assist them on their way to a wide-range of Ransom Center programs and events. Special Event volunteers are responsible for welcoming program attendees to Harry Ransom Center events such as lectures, films, and exhibition opening parties. Special event volunteers work to ensure all attendees have a positive and enjoyable experience. The primary goal of the Special Event volunteer is to encourage an engaging atmosphere, invite feedback on events, and provide event support as needed.
Position requires at least 3 events per month (each event lasts approximately 4 hours) from January 2019 through December 2019. Volunteers should expect to work on weekday evenings and occasional weekends when the bulk of Ransom Center events take place. Volunteers must attend three training sessions throughout January and February 2019.
-Greet and orient visitors to the Harry Ransom Center events
-Provide courteous, welcoming, and informed assistance
-Field questions and offer information
-Distribute and collect comment and email cards
-Manage lines and crowds
-Enforce event policies and protocols
-Interest in engaging with the public
-Awareness of exhibitions and upcoming programs
-Cooperation with staff and guards to ensure all visitors’ needs are met
