About

Texas A&M University-San Antonio is proud to be partnering with Harlandale High School for an innovative new lunchtime tutoring program. We are looking Texas A&M-SA students who would like to work with high school students in need of homework assistance. We are currently looking for volunteers in the separate subjects of Math, Writing, and Science to fulfill our program needs. Please look below for further information regarding the applicant criteria for each of these roles. 

Registration through this page will serve as the official application to join this program. Once you submit your application, we will follow up with you about scheduling a brief program orientation.  All applicants must consent to a mandatory background check through Harlandale ISD. 

Where: Harlandale High School

When: Tuesdays and Wednesdays of the Spring 2019 semester, from 12:00-1:25 pm.

What: Voluntary tutoring program offered to Harlandale students over the course of their lunch period. Tutors will consult with students on their learning needs and use their interpersonal and subject skills to provide one-on-one aid tailored to each student.



Tutor Qualifications

Writing Applicant Requirements:
  • Patient, collaborative, and supportive
  • Flexible and adaptive
  • Investment in improving writing
  • Able to build a positive rapport with students


Math Applicant Requirements:
  • Students have taken at least one of the four courses (at TAMUSA or other campuses):  College algebra (MATH 1314), Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences I (MATH 1324), pre-calculus (MATH 2312), Calculus I (MATH 2313). For College algebra, Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences I, and Pre-calculus, minimum Grade B is required. For Calculus I, minimum C is required. If none is satisfied, interested students can contact the math representatives to determine qualifications.

Science Applicant Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the first semester of General Chemistry (CHEM 1311)
  • Aptitude for the sciences
  • Patience and willingness to help others
