Longhorn Game Weekend

Saturday, October 29th, 2016 from 1:00pm to 8:30pm (CT)

About

On October 29-30th, 100 Black high school seniors from Houston, Dallas, Waco and Killeen high schools will ascend on our campus to experience what UT has to offer before making their decisions to apply to UT soon. To help ensure that they feel welcomed, learn something, and get “real” insight on life on the forty acres, The Office of Admissions has called upon the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence to assemble a group of dynamic student leaders within the Black community to host these students for a day.
How can you help? We need 15-20 volunteers throughout the entire day (10/29). We will be escorting all 100 students to the UT v. Baylor football game and we will need current UT students to attend the game with the students. Later that evening, we also want you to be apart of critical dialogue about being Black at the University of Texas at Austin. We are borrowing from New Black Student Weekend and calling this “Real Talk”. Please let me know if you are interested in escorting students to the game and serving on "Real Talk" panel.
The vision for "Real Talk” is to have a positive, yet “real" conversation about being a student at the University of Texas. We want them to leave with helpful and practical information on what to expect (time management, dorm living, nutrition/wellness, student involvement, campus climate, etc…)
