Interested in learning about planting fruiting trees in the city? The Giving Grove program at Memphis Tilth works to build sustainable orchards all over the Memphis area. Through working with community members who are wanting to create an impact in their neighborhoods, the Giving Grove Intern will assist the Giving Grove Manager in running the urban orchard program. Memphis Tilth is a non-profit whose mission is to collective action for an economically sustainable, socially equitable, and environmentally sound local food system. The intern will have the opportunity to do community outreach to various organizations from community gardens to schools, help coordinate fruit tree plantings, assist in the maintenance of the nursery, learn about how to care for trees, and develop an understanding of urban agriculture.The Giving Grove intern will work directly with the Giving Grove Manager as well as community members.

Responsibilities and expectations: 

This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as an eagerness to learn about what goes into caring for trees and the communities they will provide fruit for. Responsibilities will include checking the Giving Grove email, communicating with the stewards of potential orchard sites, updating and maintaining necessary documents and spreadsheets, watering trees and scouting for pests.
