About

Georgia Shift is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization giving young people a seat at the table of democracy. We believe social change only comes by constantly providing hands-on education and direct action opportunities, keeping young people engaged to train those who come after them. Focus Areas for Georgia Shift are Voter Engagement, Leadership Development, and Issue Advocacy.

The Georgia Shift GCCN HBCU will assist HBCUs in getting young black voters in 2021 as well as increase general civic engagement. With the goal of uniting all GA HBCU institutions around voting and student engagement to increase black youth turnout in future elections, participants will learn, network, and compete in a pitch competition to earn $2500 for a civic event.

The Marquee Event of the GCCN HBCU Summit will be a pitch competition open to all HBCU students. Students Will create a civic engagement event to occur on their campuses or in a local community in Georgia. Students will submit an initial event proposal with a budget up to $2,500. The top 5 proposals will be selected by a board of HBCU Administrators and will pitch live on Zoom on Summit Day. The winner of the top 5 will receive resources and guidance on how to build the event and execute it. After completing the event, the student will give an impact presentation or video.
