Plant Trees at the Big Woods Heritage Forest

Saturday, April 24th, 2021 from 10:00am to 3:00pm

About

The Big Woods Heritage Forest WMA includes some beautiful remnant forests that represent the historic “Big Woods” habitat in south-central Minnesota. Volunteers will help plant 3,500 bare-root trees including oaks, hickories, walnuts, and maples to restore some of the surrounding pasturelands back to that same Big Woods habitat. The WMA will provide more homes for wildlife including turkeys, squirrels, red-shouldered hawks, warblers, and red-headed woodpeckers.
We are also tracking observations at this location through iNaturalist. Learn more about this project at Big Woods Heritage Forest Observations · iNaturalist.

This planting will take place over the course of three small shifts and will have limited capacity to ensure social distancing. The first two shifts will have a larger capacity and will require a ten-minute walk from parking to the worksite. The third shift will require a 15 minute, uphill walk from the parking area to the worksite, and due to limited parking capacity will be even more restricted. If the shifts fill up, please sign up to be added to the waitlist - if there are cancellations, you will automatically be registered.

There are no facilities available at this site, however, a portable sanitation unit will all be available nearby. There will be no food provided at this event to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please bring your own lunch, snacks, or whatever you may need to get through your shift.

Once you have registered via GivePulse, organizers from Great River Greening will approve your registration and you will receive confirmation. You will continue to receive event reminders as the event nears. If you have further questions, please contact volunteer@greatrivergreening.org

If you are a minor registering yourself, you will need to provide an email address in the "Linked Survey" box so we can send the Youth Liability Waiver to your parent or guardian. If you are an adult bringing a minor, you can add them as an attendee and simply check the "Youth Waiver" box upon registering. If you are an adult registering yourself and another adult, you will need to enter their unique email address to the Attendee registration, so they can confirm their registration and sign a waiver.
