Marketing and Communications Intern

This is an unpaid internship for either one semester or the entire school year, with the possibility of summer work. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

This position is open to a student who has already completed some basic training in the field of public communications, including social media and writing, who is seeking an opportunity to gain experience with a small, yet rapidly growing 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to assist in the development and execution of an impactful communications and social media content strategy. Following are some tasks for which the intern will be responsible.

·       Develop marketing materials for the following categories, with targeted materials for specific demographics-race, ethnicity, site type, community/neighborhood:

o   Coach Recruitment

o   Girl Recruitment

o   Site Recruitment

·       Evaluate website content and execute needed updates by learning website design software.

         Conduct interviews and highlight impactful participant and volunteer stories from GOTR & Heart & Sole sites

         Master ERP system in order to manage the email marketing content creation that is shared with entire contact database.

         Work with ED and Marketing Chair to develop social media content and calendar for Instagram, Twitter and Facebook

         Organize all archived stories on Instagram.

         Work with Marketing Committee to develop short videos to inspire donors, participant families and potential corporate partners/sponsors to get involved.

 

*If allowable, given the constraints of COVID Crisis: Attend council events and program events to capture live coverage and content for use on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook

 

Qualities the intern must possess include:

·       Creativity

·       Excellent writing skills

·       Outgoing & personable in interactions with stakeholders

·       Strong work ethic

·       Ability to work autonomously.

·       Openness to learn and apply new skills.

·       Demonstration of fundamental basic skills already learned in the field, i.e., completed course work and faculty recommendation

About Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run Memphis is an after-school empowerment program for 3rd-8th grade girls which equips them with critical life skills needed to manage the challenges of adolescence. The program’s intentional curriculum — which incorporates physical activity — provides girls the social-emotional learning tools they need to navigate friendships, cultivate empathy, and build self-confidence. Under the guidance of trained and supportive coaches, girls are encouraged to find their inner strength. Participants complete their 10-week program with a deeper understanding of their mind and body connection and how physical activity can be a powerful means of activating their limitless potential.
