About

The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation (LPBF) and Entergy have partnered to present the sixth annual Spring Sweep 2020. The date was originally set for Saturday, March 21st, 2020 but has been moved to the last weekend of May; Saturday, May 30th and Sunday, May 31th to prepare the region for hurricane season coming June 1st.

Volunteers, partners, and sponsors are encouraged to help clean up the areas that drain into Lake Pontchartrain by cleaning curbs, ditches, and storm drains along city streets and rural roadways. As we all prepare for hurricane season, Spring Sweep is an opportunity to contribute in a safe, socially-distanced way. This project will help prevent our metro area from flooding and at the same time protect Lake Pontchartrain from harmful debris and toxins. We encourage participants to use the Ocean Conservancy's Clean Swell App to record what they pick up, your records will contribute to an international database and help us learn more about the litter in our environment!

We ask that volunteers remain mindful of the guidelines put in place by the City of New Orleans and State of Louisiana while participating. Volunteers are encouraged to participate with their families or in socially-distanced small groups. We ask that volunteers tag a photo of themselves and/or others freshening their garden either front or backyard or hauling the neighborhood litter to the trash with the hashtag #SpringSweep2020 on any social media outlet.
