About

The Iowa Chapter of the AIDs Healthcare Foundation (501c3) is hosting an online advocacy event on April 2nd!
At 7pm, there will be a movie screening of the documentary "Now! Advocacy Saves Lives" and we will also have  games such as online jeopardy, trivia, and more activities to get involved in. Gift card prizes are available for winners of the online games to Target and Starbucks.

"Now! Advocacy Saves Lives” is a film about the work AHF has done and continue to do to end the HIV epidemic that has impacted millions across the globe. You’ll be able to watch the hour-long movie in the comfort of your home, with or without the group, but join a discussion around the video. The film depicts AHF's commitment to fight HIV, such as creating affordable healthcare and drug access, protecting film industry workers, supporting LGBTQ+ communities, and more. It is an insightful film on how we can better protect those living with HIV and end HIV transmissions.

AHF began as an organization providing community support during the height of epidemic.  We started as a hospice center for those dying of AIDs to give dignity and relief to those suffering at the end stages of their life. Similar to COVID-19, when HIV first began to hit Americans, it shocked healthcare centers in communities and there were many more questions than answers, sparking fear. What can we learn from both of these outbreaks?

This a great opportunity for students with interest in health, public health, advocacy, politics, nonprofits, LGBTG+ rights, and a general desire to make the world more just.

This online event will be hosted through facebook. Please visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/209115240363612/ to join!
