About

Project BudBurst is a nationwide, community science-driven effort to study the impact of climate change on plants. Volunteers monitor the timing of specific events in a plant’s life history (full bloom, fruiting, etc.), record their observations, and share their data with Project BudBurst.

We’ll kick off Hoyt’s fourth year of Project BudBurst with this volunteer training on Thursday, February 13 from 10-11:30am at the Visitor Center. During the training, volunteers will learn about plant structures and phenology, choose a specific plant to monitor at the Arboretum, and learn how to record and report their data.

After the training, volunteers should be available to visit their plant(s) at least every other week during the growing season (approximately March through November). Project BudBurst is a great opportunity for individuals interested in community science and volunteering outdoors with a flexible schedule.

If you have questions or want to sign up for the training, please contact volunteer@hoytarboretum.org or (503) 823-1649.
