Once applicants are approved, training is provided in a combination of classroom and hands-on experience throughout the community. Ambassadors and Ombudsmen typically work in teams and meet directly with individuals living in homes and facilities licensed or certified for Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities or Mental Health Conditions. Ombudsmen serve as the voice of the resident, working to make the system is responsive to their needs and wishes. To do that, they investigate the resident's concerns and then work with facility staff and/or others, as appropriate, until these concerns have been resolved.
